The A/C system involves many components such as an Accumulator-Drier, Compressor, Condenser, Evaporator and Expansion device. The A/C compressor is referred to as the heart of the air conditioning system because it pumps refrigerant throughout the system. It also acts as a junction which divides the high-pressure and low-pressure sides of the system. The A/C compressor is driven by a serpentine belt attached to the engine. It regulates and circulates the refrigerant throughout the system. The Ford Fairmont A/C compressor draws the refrigerant from the evaporator in the low-pressure side, compresses into high pressure gas and pushes it to the condenser in the high-pressure side.
